Ponder This Break Down…

For many of us, claiming personal power in our lives feels like a double edged sword. We want to express our wants and needs, we want to move in the direction of fulfilling them, but if you’ve been a people-pleaser all of your life, taking that step may feel like it requires stepping ON someone else’s wants, needs and emotions. Those with whom we’ve built relationships often subtly demand that we subvert our power by taking care of their needs, and anything we do to shift that balance is going to be met with resistance, anger, and possibly outright hostility.

We have been programmed to put others’ needs first, to consider their feelings above our own, and to do anything else is considered to be selfish, disloyal and betraying. We have allowed our sense of well-being to be determined by the emotional climate around us. And those with whom we are closest have come to depend on us for their emotional stability. Erroneously, we’ve assumed responsibility for their feelings.

If you’re anything like most of us people pleasers, you’ll reach a point in your life where you just can’t stomach this kind of personal betrayal any longer. You’ll no longer be willing to dismiss your own peace of mind in an attempt to maintain the peace in your environment. Hopefully, you’ll begin to acknowledge that we’re actually doing a disservice to those around us by assuming responsibility for their pain. They’ll never grow themselves if we continue to remove the impetus for their personal growth.

These bonds of emotional responsibility weigh heavy over time. It’s okay to choose to finally set them down. It’s okay to choose to reclaim your personal power. It’s okay to let others own their choices, emotions and behaviors—and the consequences of those choices. It’s not only okay—it’s paramount.

Integral to the human experience is our ability to choose. Free will allows us to choose not only our actions, but our thoughts and beliefs as well. This ability to choose even allows us to choose bonds that tie us to another or that limit our belief that we even have choices. We always have choices. As the spiritual teacher Abraham-Hicks explains, we are so free that we can even choose bondage.

Having reached this precipice in my life, I can now see the value in allowing others to manage and navigate their own emotional world. I no longer need to mitigate their pain in order to feel peaceful. I understand the power that pain can provide in motivating us to change our thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. I now believe that it’s really not helpful to assume responsibility for anyone’s emotional well-being but my own. I have come to realize that I truly am free. I’ve been free to choose all along. Only now, I choose to be free.

Ponder This Break Down…

Doesn’t it just drive you crazy when people tell you to not take things personally? How can you NOT?! Right? I mean, when someone says or does something TO you, how can you NOT take it personally?!

I’ve been playing around with this concept for a while now, and I’ve found that it holds great power. Certainly, on the surface, our personal interactions can only be seen as that—personal. Someone says something to us, and we interpret it personally. However, what people really mean when they advise not taking something personally is to NOT make it be about your worth. Whoa! That’s the golden nugget here!

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

How often, when we interact with someone, are we unconsciously or subconsciously seeking either validation, approval or acceptance? We put our very worth on the table every single time—as if this other person has the power to grant or deny our worth. In essence, that IS the very power that we’ve given them. But we don’t have to. We need not hand over that power in each and every interaction. In fact, when we stop to consider it, that’s a fairly ludicrous idea to begin with. Why would we hand over the determination of our worth to anyone else? Well, why would we even question our worth in the first place?

So there’s the rub underlying this quote. If we aren’t questioning our worth in the first place, isn’t it, in fact, very easy to not take what someone says or does personally at all? When we stand confident in our own value, our own worth, we realize that others’ choices are driven by their own inner conflicts, wounds and decisions. When someone acts hurtfully towards us, if our worth is safely out of reach, we can see the action for what it truly is—a cry for help, love and acceptance from someone who themselves is hurting painfully. It’s amazing how detached we are able to become when we no longer question our own worth.

There is great power in removing our worth from the outcome of any interaction. When we know who we are, when we value ourselves intrinsically, we no longer need to seek that validation, approval or acceptance from random interactions. We cultivate that knowing within ourselves, and we hold it sacred. For truly, our worth IS sacred, untouchable, and unquestionable. Are you willing to know yourself with that kind of conviction? I am.

Ponder This Break Down…

To be heard, to be truly seen and to feel appreciated—these are the ultimate gifts of any relationship. As I continue to walk this journey of awakening to my True Self, I’m gathering incredible, yet unexpected, treasures such as these along the way. Yet how many of us walk through life without feeling any of these things? We often look to others to give us these, to fill in gaps within us that we ourselves haven’t taken the time to address.

This experience of being listened to wholeheartedly is truly one of life’s greatest treasures. However, let me clarify that before we go off on a rant that others just aren’t willing to listen and it’s so hard to find this, we must first tend to our own house. Let me explain.

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

Being listened to appears to be a rare gift indeed. Yet the reason is not so much that others are unwilling to listen to us as it is that we ourselves have not quieted the demons in our heads that constantly tell us that we are unworthy of such undivided attention or unconditional acceptance. Those voices in our heads are what keep this experience at bay. WE have not granted ourselves permission to be worthy of receiving this precious gift.

Rather than acknowledging that we have not healed our own wounds deep enough to understand that it is our unworthiness that prevents others from being fully present with us, we tend to blame the world and others for their lack of empathy, understanding and presence. Even if others were to grant us this gift, with those voices chastising us, would we even recognize or accept what was being offered to us? Probably not.

So the crux of this gift is that we must first do the internal work. We must first reach the point where we are willing to accept this beautiful experience. Only then will we allow someone else to reflect back to us this gift of being truly seen and heard.

How then is it possible for those of us still feeling unworthy at times to know moments of this? At our core, we are all worthy. Our soul knows this. And we all experience moments in time when we align with this deepest truth of who we are. Sometimes the experience is triggered by a person, a relationship, a moment of beauty—any experience really. And in that moment, we stop resisting the truth of ourselves. We, at least for that moment, know ourselves to be fully worthy, at one with all of creation. If our moment was initiated by a person, we might then allow ourselves to be fully heard. We might allow ourselves to accept this gift of unconditional presence. In the end though, we must first ALLOW it, however that comes about.

When we can do this inner work of accepting ourselves, of aligning with this ever present deeper truth of who we are, it is then that we consistently invite into our lives the kind of people and relationships who offer this incredible gift to us. THIS is what drives me forward to continue facing my own inner demons, quieting those disparaging voices to allow the real truth of who I am to shine forth. For in doing so, I allow myself the immeasurable and priceless gifts of connecting deeply with others—for no other reason than it feels incredible to do so!

Ponder This Break Down…

Do you consider yourself creative? Many people don’t. I cannot count the number of times I’ve heard people dismiss themselves with the off-handed comment, “Oh, I’m not creative at all.” I especially heard this when working in my scrapbooking business a few years ago. It always annoyed me, but it wasn’t until more recently that I began to fully understand that source of that annoyance.

When thinking of arts or crafts, people either willingly engage in these activities and consider themselves creative, at least to some extent, or they steer completely clear, erroneously believing themselves to be incapable of creating anything. What most people fail to understand, though, is that life itself is an act of creation—their creation. Through their thoughts, their beliefs and their actions, they have created the very life that they are living.

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

In this sense, life itself becomes the ultimate creative endeavor. We put together the pieces of family, career, relationships, interests, passions and more, to build a unique expression of life. We blend pieces of this with colors of that to produce our own version of reality, truly fabricating a masterpiece of our own design – whether we are willing to acknowledge this process as creative or not.

The act of living might then be more accurately described as the “art of living” for as with art, everything is open to interpretation, and there is no “right” way to produce it. Each life is also then an original which may be imitated or reproduced but never exactly replicated.

So, if you’re one of those individuals who fails to appreciate their creative capabilities, I challenge you to consider this perspective. With every breath you take, you’re adding value to the canvas upon which you are painting the picture of your life. Each decision is a brush stroke that adds not only color but texture to your masterpiece. Every belief is simply a rule by which you apply color and texture to your unique work of art.

By acknowledging the creative control you wield over your life, you become free to experiment, to dabble, to mix medias and to explore techniques. Some you’ll embrace and others you will discard. It really doesn’t matter, because as with all art, the ultimate experience is in the creation of it!

Give yourself permission to embrace your creativity. Look around you. Just look at the life that you have created. YOU. Yes, YOU have created this. What a magnificent artist you are! Extraordinarily creative! And I stand in awe of the wonder that YOU have brought into this world!

Ponder This Break Down…

How is it that the human experience has become so damn complicated?! We intellectualize how it is that life works. We accumulate information in an attempt to bend the process of living to our will. We repress emotions simply because we were never shown how to express them effectively. And in doing all of these things, we complicate life to the point where we stand in confusion at the center, wondering where it all went awry. We turn to the equally confused companions standing next to us and expect them to point the way out of our quandary, despair and apathy.

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

Perhaps this is mankind’s greatest accomplishment to date, the monument that has withstood the sands of time: our ability to create chaos out of the fabric of life. Just think about it for a moment… We have manipulated the energy of life into such a complicated and convoluted version of reality that we now see ourselves, not as the creators and masters of the game, but as hapless pawns in someone else’s game. We have so bought into the myth that since the game we joined was already in progress, we are bound to abide by the rules already established, forgetting that we are free to maneuver our own pieces in whatever manner we individually choose. We have forgotten our sovereignty.

Some of us then believe that we simply need to change the circumstances in which we find ourselves, change which game we’re playing, in order to gain a sense of purpose and control over our own movements. However, the circumstances do not control this. Our thoughts, our beliefs and the meanings we assign to them are what determine how we feel about our lives and then what actions we will choose to take. And the truth of the matter is that until we choose to change those thoughts, beliefs and meanings, we will continue to recreate the essence of the external circumstances in which we now find ourselves standing. Lasting change must start from within.

If we grant ourselves a momentary reprieve and allow ourselves to step outside of the game temporarily, we can see that life really is a game that we have engaged in for the same reason that we play any game—for the FUN of it. Period. Sure, we can learn all kinds of cool lessons and gain all sorts of lofty knowledge, but the point has always been, as with any game, to ENJOY the experience of playing it. We’ve allowed that important truth to get lost among the layers and layers of rules and conditions and circumstances of this elaborate game that we’re playing. We’ve gotten so serious that we’ve even come to look at it as a matter of life and death. Ha! How absurd! To forget that life is eternal! We never figured that we’ve ever get to that point! Surely we would always hold onto the memory of our eternal-ness, wouldn’t we?

Somehow, we have forgotten. We have allowed ourselves to so completely identify with the personas that we are wearing that we have forgotten the truth about our eternal nature, the continuity of all life, and our power to literally create the worlds that we inhabit. Until we re-member the truth of our sovereignty to dictate the direction of the energy flow in our lives, we will find ourselves subject to the previously established rules of the game. We will be buffeted by the circumstances which continue to flow around us. And we will continue to see ourselves as victims in this game. Truly, wherever we go, we will always find ourselves, whether we stop to look or not.

Ponder This Break Down…

Life has never felt more precarious to me than this current stage through which I’m moving. Well, I suppose that could be said of every new stage we go through, right? But seriously, THIS has got to be the most challenging.

True or not, it certainly feels that way to me right now. Life is shifting constantly. Things that I used to feel sure about get thrown into the mix, and now I feel like I’m swimming through quicksand with them. I tune into my intuition, follow what I’m sure is my guidance, only to have things go belly up. I often find myself standing with my hands open in supplication to… Whatever the Powers That Be, and asking, WTH?! (Okay, I actually use more colorful language than that, but I’m trying to keep it somewhat respectable here.)

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

WTH seems to be the drum that I’ve been beating lately. And I know I’m not the only one. I have some amazing people in my life who are creating some phenomenal things. They’re taking enormous risks, following their hearts, and finding doors repeatedly being closed in their faces. WTH?! They too thought they were following guidance. Aren’t doors supposed to OPEN when we do that, and not get slammed in our faces?

Yet, this is the theme that I hear over and over. So I have to believe that there’s something monumental going on. It’s NOT just me. It’s becoming a pattern, so I have to think there’s a lesson held within it. Again I stand with my hands held in supplication, Please tell me what it is so that I can move through it with more grace than I seem to be displaying lately.

And that right there is the whole point, I believe. Moving forward with grace, even when things don’t appear to be flowing. Life IS changing fast – faster than ever before. The key to navigating it all seems to be fluidity, being willing to roll with the abrupt changes in direction and violent storms that flare up and just as quickly subside. Being flexible enough to withstand the onslaught while continuing to hold the vision of what it is we’re creating and where we see ourselves going. That’s the dance. The balancing act.

We’ve all deduced by now that there is no road map for what life is supposed to look like these days. We’re blazing trails here. We’re cutting paths through territory that has never yet been explored. So how the hell are we supposed to know what it’s going to look like? We aren’t. That’s just it. We’re NOT supposed to know, yet we are supposed to keep moving forward.

So breathe easier if you too are being buffeted by the winds of change. You’re not alone. No one knows what this is supposed to look like, so quit expecting yourself to know! The upside to all of this is that we get to create what it looks like. Personally, I vote for movement with grace and ease!

Together we are all just figuring life out as we go. Sometimes things fall into place much more smoothly than at other times, but we do ourselves a huge disservice when we start to travel down the road of “What am I doing wrong?” We’re NOT doing anything wrong. We’re just clearing debris from the path in front of us which can only make the road smoother for those following us. In the meantime, take heart. Breathe deeply. Pause if you must. But KNOW that you’re doing important work here. And it truly matters. Please don’t let your discouragement at these temporary setbacks become anything bigger than what it is – a momentary re-direction as we continue forward toward our dreams. We’ve so got this!

Ponder This Break Down…

At the beginning of our life, we are like sponges, soaking up everything from our environment: thoughts, beliefs, goals, values, rules, agendas. We see ourselves through the eyes of those around us. When they look with love, we learn to love and value ourselves. But all too often, they look at us through their own woundedness, through their own cracked and damaged filters. We then learn to see ourselves as flawed and damaged too.

At some point, we hopefully begin to see that this definition of who we are just doesn’t fit right. The beliefs that we’re broken, damaged, wrong, flawed – whatever words we’ve come to identify with – start to become uncomfortable, limiting and restrictive. The truth of the matter is that they’ve always been confining, but at some point we notice that restriction and begin to rebel against it. We try to break free of the bonds that we don’t even realize we’ve unwittingly accepted.

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

At some point, usually when the pain becomes unbearable, we begin to shed the layers of our human woundedness and seek the truth that has always resided beneath that surface story of our flaws. We begin to search for the true definition of who we are. It is then, in my opinion, that life begins to truly be the magical experience that it was always intended to be. It is then that we begin to wake up to the truth of our divine heritage and release this illusion of broken-ness with which we’ve always identified.

The freedom that ensues from reaching for this personal definition of self is nothing short of mind-blowing! We realize that WE get to choose. We alone get to define who we are. And if we allow others to impact us, we realize that it is a CHOICE – a choice we can change at any point in time.

The pattern of needing unbearable pain to be the impetus to begin this process of self awareness and understanding seems to be shifting too. No longer will it be necessary to dive into the depths of what has been called “the dark night of the soul” in order to examine and change these definitions of self. Certainly, that pattern still exists and is a valid choice. It’s just no longer the only choice available to us. That makes it so very exciting to be alive at this time. Life is shifting. Our awareness of ourselves is shifting, changing and expanding.

Let the momentum of these shifts carry you forward in your own self exploration. Begin to release the notion that you are flawed or broken or damaged. See yourself instead as the powerful, creative and imaginative being that you’ve always truly been. Embrace the freedom that you hold to define yourself – and accept nothing less than the magnificence that is your birthright. This is how life was meant to be experienced – from this place of power, grace and love.

Ponder This Break Down…

Life is a wild ride, most of us would agree. It’s filled with unforeseen obstacles, unplanned detours and endless changes. Pretty much the only constant is that things are always changing. For those of us who are sensitive to energies (whether we know that to be the case or not), the unrelenting bombardment of the density of 3D energy can easily become overwhelming. In short, life here in the physical world is not for the faint of heart.

Part of us knows that we’re not “from” here. Our souls remember that this life is simply the place we’ve come to play out certain agendas and master certain lessons because this is the best place in the universe to do so. We’ve chosen to be here – even as our human self often rebels against the cruelty and difficulty of life on this planet. In spite of the harshness here, in spite of the heaviness of the energy here, we still chose to experience life in this human form because it offers blessings unavailable anywhere else. However, remembering our divine connection can make navigating this life somewhat easier.

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

While experience from the human perspective would have us shield and guard our tender hearts, it is only through the opening of our hearts that we can transcend the frailty of human existence and embrace the power of our divine nature. Our hearts hold the key. They are the avenue through which we connect, while in this human form, to our spiritual essence and celestial counterparts. It is our hearts that remind us of who we truly are.

So life becomes a dance of experiencing the gamut of human emotions, feeling the flow of energy that those emotions (e-motion: energy-in-motion) create, and choosing to remain open despite the uncomfortableness that our minds want to avoid. As more and more higher frequencies of energy become available on the planet, humanity moves closer to living life in 5D. The polarity of 3D existence is slowly melding into the duality of 5D existence. Life is moving away from the perspective of “this OR that” to “this AND that.” We’re learning to allow multiple truths simultaneously. We’re expanding to become more inclusive rather than divisive. Of course, these changes do not occur without certain challenges. The old paradigm, while limiting, is too familiar, too ingrained to be released without certain resistance and fear. Yet, we persevere. Love WILL prevail.

Again, our hearts hold the key. By following our hearts, by courageously stepping forward into this unknown and uncharted territory, by willingly facing our fears, we create a bigger, more expansive, even more beautiful experience of life on earth. So take heart, dear friends, for we truly are making a significant difference. Every time one chooses to be love rather than fear, we move a little closer. Every time one opens their heart a little more, we move a little closer. Soon, these trials and tribulations will simply be a memory that we tell our grandchildren for they will be born into a world that truly embraces love and knows nothing else. Together, with great courage, we are creating heaven on earth.

Ponder This Break Down…

How does it happen that the dreams that inspired us in our youth often simply fade into the background of raising families, paying bills, and working corporate jobs? Where did we get turned aside from the passion that kept us up late at night, talking and dreaming of the big things we were going to do with our lives? How did it become so easy to let those dreams die?

The truth is that those dreams aren’t dead. Not really. They have just gone into hibernation simply because we have bought into the story that we need to “grow up” and get a “real job.” We’ve been fed the myth that our dreams and living life are mutually exclusive, and we have to give up those dreams to “make a living.” That’s just another falsehood we’ve never thought to question. Living without dreams is merely existing – and we’ve come here to do so much more than that.

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

Our dreams fueled us in our youth because we were still innocent enough to believe that they mattered, that WE mattered. We dreamt of creating a better world, helping others, building empires, and traveling the globe. We spent hours talking with our friends about how we were going to make a difference, that we weren’t going to end up like our parents simply feeding the meat grind of paying bills and raising kids. Yet somehow, here we are ten, twenty, or thirty years later doing exactly that and wondering how it all went awry.

Perhaps nothing has gone awry. Perhaps we’re exactly where we need to be even as we realize we never had any intention of ending up here. Perhaps we’re waking up to this fact now because there’s still time to pull those dreams off the shelf, dust them off and breathe new life into them. Perhaps those dreams have never stopped leading us forward, and now with all of the experience and wisdom we’ve acquired, we’re finally ready to make them come true.

I can honestly say that I never really envisioned myself being at this place in life, but in so many ways I can see how very perfect it has all been. Everything has lead me here – to this point in time, to who I’ve become now, poised and ready to leap into my next adventure which is to live a life of my dreams. Those things I once dreamed about doing, I’m now creating. I’m letting go of all of the reasons why pursuing those dreams is not practical or feasible. I’m letting the Universe guide and support me as together we co-create a life whose magnificent is limited only by my ability to envision and allow it. And as I experience those coincidences and serendipities along the way, I KNOW that I am headed in the right direction. The joy that these “signs” along the way inspire within me assure me that all is indeed well, and getting “well-er.”

I invite you to give yourself permission to revisit those dreams of the past—those aspirations and ambitions that you chalked up to impossibilities, because NOTHING is impossible. Your dreams are calling you. Won’t you answer?!

Ponder This Break Down…

Life is a complex experience simultaneously happening in different arenas as well at different levels of consciousness. It’s all happening at once. Yet, we often expect to be able to navigate it all with little to no disturbance or disruption of the surface, and by doing so, we set ourselves up for a more difficult experience than it needs to be.

As we set intentions to make our growth and ultimately our happiness a priority, we put things into motion that we often do not fully understand. The Universe responds to those intentions, providing situations and circumstances that allow us to create what we’ve intended. However, sometimes those situations and circumstances come with a whole bunch more disruption than we are wanting. I believe this is where the expression, “Be careful what you ask for,” comes from. There are often unexpected repercussions.

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

Let me illustrate this with my recent personal experiences. At this point in my life, my overriding intention is to create my financial independence. I no longer want to base decisions on whether or not I can afford something but whether it’s a fit for what I want and is aligned with who I am. I want the basis for my decisions in life to be whether something will increase my joy or not. I’ve been working toward this for the past couple years, and as with many people, there have been many layers to this issue for me.

Just recently, I was presented with an opportunity to work with a business coach who purported to be able to help me grow my business significantly by following her blueprint. She undoubtedly has created financial success in her own life, so there is no question that her methods work. But the question became, will they work FOR ME? And this is where things get tricky, where all of our personal “issues” rise to the surface amid everything else as we try to reach a decision.

For me, questions about the viability of investing thousands of dollars into my personal growth as a business owner surfaced. There were other questions and doubts as well. Will this simply create more debt or will I achieve the results she claims are possible? What if Life intervenes and I’m unable to fulfill my commitment in a timely manner? What then?

Ultimately, I had to look at the uneasiness that I felt in my gut about this whole situation. There were red flags for me: inconsistencies in language, requirements to follow her blueprints to the letter, discrepancies between words and actions. These things didn’t sit right with me, and in the end, I realized that while this may well be a fabulous opportunity, if it is not “right” for me, it will simply be a detour that I don’t necessarily need to take. In the end, I chose to pass on this opportunity, but I’ll admit it was a bit exhausting. Then, right on the heels of this “choice point” came an opportunity to be more honest and authentic in my personal relationships.

As I more closely examine the choices that I’ve been presented with lately, I realize that they’re really not so different. Yes, they occurred in different “arenas” of my life, but both contain the underlying theme of trusting myself to know what is best and aligned with what I truly want. They were both opportunities to express myself honestly and authentically and as openly as possible. So while I imagined that the business opportunity was about my financial independence, perhaps it too was about my personal intention to be more open, honest and authentic in my relationships. I know there are no coincidences, so I willingly step into the space of trusting myself more fully. I am qualified to honor my goals, and I am worthy of allowing my intentions to blossom in my life. Oh yes! I am learning to trust that I know what course is best for me. I just need to listen with my open heart.
