[Transcribed from podcast ep. #192] I really resonate strongly with this quote and this teacher in general; he has so much profound insight… this certainly is profound; a certain darkness is indeed needed to see the stars.

Without that contrast—without the darkness, without the downside… without the “negative,” without all the difficulties and challenges that come into our lives, we wouldn’t understand and appreciate all the upside. We all know that kid maybe (laughs) who was very spoiled, maybe from a rich family or something, growing up—you’ve even seen them on TV; some of these, you know, Hollywood spoiled brats… reality shows, I don’t know; I’m just making it up (laughs) but you know what I’m talking about…

Inspiring Five Year-Old Magician Shocks the Crowd with Real Magic!

A five year-old magician goes to the beach to spread his message of positivity… his first trick is cute… but his second feat of “real magic” stuns and delights everyone!

These people who have not had the challenges or the difficulty, or a struggle in any way, shape or form—and I’m sure they’ve had some negativity in their life for sure—but there’s something that comes with that contrast of maybe struggling to get what you need or want, or to overcome, as opposed to just being born with the silver spoon, or not having any kind of real darkness.

I can think of someone in my past who I would often say…. I really cared for this individual and thought a lot of her, but I would always say, what would do her good is a little bit of hardship. She’d never had any kind of hardship and it was kind of written all over her; it was just sort of a disconnection, or an inability to understand others or fully appreciate the struggle that so many people go through.

Instead of resisting the darkness that is in our lives, if you can bring an understanding and awareness—that’s what this show is all about, right? Expanding your perception so you can see that the lump of coal is always a diamond in disguise, and there is always light hiding behind the darkness… instead of resisting it—so many people push it away and run from the darkness—what if you were to stop and face the darkness? And say, “Ah, I need this; this is part of the story, it is an indicator of something from me to learn and grow from.

How do I turn towards it instead of hating it, resisting it or disliking it, or thinking I’m broken because I’m not always a positive head, right? Yes, that is the ultimate aim, it’s to focus on the positive, but when you are focusing on the negative, which is inevitable for every single one of us… don’t resist; don’t run from it: you’re there, you’re in it… embrace it, explore it: it’s happening for a reason. Then move out of it; then find a way to reach for neutral thoughts, or positive thoughts—but not at the expense of completely discounting and disregarding the negative that you’ve dropped into, because it’s happening for a reason. It’s a part of the story; the contrast is where it’s at.

When you can understand and embrace all parts, all facets of being a human being, you’re really on to something. You’re really beginning to understand the power of contrast and the beauty that comes from seeing those stars after the darkness, and how much brighter they shine because of it—because without that darkness you’d never see them, you’d never experience (them) and it wouldn’t mean anything.
